About the Institute

The Data Science Institute @ ISM acts as a bridge between the university and the business world for data-driven innovation. It combines academic expertise with the practical requirements of business and supports companies and institutions in systematically unlocking the added value of their data. The Institute’s solutions also include AI-supported methods and approaches drawn from machine learning.

The focus is particularly on small and medium-sized enterprises and organisations within the ISM Campi network that wish to harness data-driven potential, build up data science expertise or have relevant projects supported by academic expertise. To this end, the institute offers a wide range of services - from field projects, work placements and part-time student roles, through dual study programmes and PhD projects, to application-oriented data science projects and long-term collaboration models.

At the same time, the institute sees itself as a gateway for students, enabling them to engage with real-world practical issues at an early stage and forge valuable links with the business world. Through the exchange between research, teaching and practice, as well as by securing external funding, the Data Science Institute @ ISM aims to become a recognised centre of excellence for applied data science.
